Weddings at St. James’ Church

Normally, to be married at a specific Church, either the Bride or Groom, have to reside in the Parish of that Church. If that is not the case, they need to become a member of that Church by attending for a minimum of six months and having their name or names added to the Church Electoral Roll. Banns would need to be read in the Church selected and the Parish Church where each reside. If there is a family connection with St James’ Church, under certain Circumstances, it is possible to be married here. Please enquire at our Church Office if you feel you may qualify. In certain special circumstances an application can be made to the Archbishop of Canterbury, for a Special Licence to marry at a Church. An example might be where the bride’s family attend a Church but the Bride is working abroad. Fees are payable and several of these are set Nationally and some locally. Such fees are reviewed annually. In the case of applications for a wedding at a Church by a person who has been divorced, a written application is required to the Rector who will give the matter due consideration.
