What's New at St. James’ Church
We are very honoured to announce the appointment of
PROFESSOR DAVID OWEN NORRIS
MA(Oxon) FRAM FRCO
as Director of Music for St. James’ Church
David Owen Norris is Professor of Musical Performance at the University of Southampton and Visiting Professor of Fortepiano at the Royal College of Music, an Honorary Fellow of Keble College, Oxford, Educational Fellow of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music and of the Royal College of Organists.
He was Organ Scholar at Keble, and left Oxford with a First and a Composition Scholarship to study in London and Paris. He was Repetiteur at the Royal Opera House, Harpist at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Artistic Director of Festivals in Cardiff and Petworth, Chairman of the Steans Institute for Singers in Chicago, and the Gresham Professor of Music in the City of London.
His many radio series have included The Works, But I know what I like and All the Rage, and he presented the drive-time show In Tune for several years. First and foremost he is a pianist, beginning as an accompanist to such artists as Dame Janet Baker, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Larry Adler.
In 1991, after a worldwide search, the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival appointed him the first Gilmore Artist, a quadrennial award. His subsequent international solo career has included concertos with the Chicago and Detroit Symphony Orchestras and the Handel & Haydn Society in Boston (amongst many other North American orchestras), the Philharmonia, the Academy of Ancient Music, and several of the BBC’s orchestras, including four appearances at the Proms: and solo recitals all over North America and Australia, and in every European country from Hungary westward.
David has many plans and ideas to enhance the music of St. James’, including forming a Sunday morning music club for children.
David will be a tremendous asset to the life of the Church and we feel very proud that he wishes to join us in our mission to bring Christ and his message to the people of Poole and beyond.

Pioneer Ministry
The Revd. Paul Bradbury is the Pioneer Minister for Old Poole and Hamworthy. He and his wife Emily have two children Jacob (10) and Bethany (7). If you would like to meet Paul, please contact the Church Office at St. James' Church on 01 202 677117 (Tuesday - Friday 9.15am to 1pm) and we will find an early opportunity to introduce you to Paul. He is available to anyone in the Poole area who feels they would like to know more about Christianity.

St. James' Church, the Parish Church of Poole is one of 15 Churches sponsoring Dr Nick Wooding and his wife, Kate ,who with their two children, Ben and Anna are moving in August, 2009 to Kampala, Uganda. Nick was a General Practitioner with the National Health Service and will become a Team Member of the International Medical Group involved with training future local doctors. Kate will be involved with a Project with children living with AIDS. Ben and Anna will attend the International School. St. James' Church has undertaken this commitment to help support the Wooding Family, through CMS, financially, with Prayer and by regular encouragement through communication with our congregation. Our Year 1 obligation is to raise £3,500 but our target is £5,000. All support would be appreciated to The Church Treasurer, Church Office, Thames Street, POOLE, BH15 1JN. Cheques payable to PCC of St. James' Church - Wooding sub account.
Jenny White
Jenny is our Pastoral Assistant and is providing valuable help is visiting some of our elderly and less mobile members.
