Activities at St. James’ Church

Tower Bell Ringers

St. James’ Church has a Ring of Ten Bells, eight of which were made at the Downham Factory in 1821 by William Dobson. The two smaller bells, by the Whitechapel Foundry, were added in 1937 to mark the Coronation of King George VI. During 2008 our bells were completely refurbished and are now set up for generations to come. The Church Ringers call people to Worship every Sunday morning and also ring at Weddings and on Special Occasions. Ringers meet at 7pm each Friday for practice and would welcome anyone local who might be interested in joining the group. Instruction will be given. We are most anxious to increase our ringing team. All welcome. This could be a most satisfying activity for younger people. Please don't be shy, come along and have a go! Ask for the Bell Captain, Brian Mullins.

Women's Fellowship

A very active Women’s Fellowship Group of ladies (and gentlemen) operates within St. James' Church. An excellent and varied programme is prepared each year by the Committee and is enjoyed by all.. They meet on the third Thursday each month at 2.30pm in the Church Centre opposite the Church. All are welcome. Come along and join the Group, you will be made most welcome and will certainly make new friends. Special facilities for the disabled. Please see the Forthcoming Events page on this site for specific activities/events.

Luncheon Club

St. James Church Luncheon Club operates from the Church Centre to accommodate the elderly and lonely folk in the Old Town and has proved most successful, many making new friends. A two course meal is served on the first Thursday of each month generally, and its popularity has resulted in there being a waiting list as catering limits have been reached. If any reader knows anyone who would benefit from this facility, their name may be left at the Church Office or a message left on 01202 677117.

Little Jemms

Little Jemms is a Parent and Toddler Group organised by St. James' Church and operating from the Church centre every Friday morning, except during school holidays. Since the inception it has been extremely successful and very much appreciated by the various parents. However, this success has resulted in us having to establish a waiting list for future membership. For a parent and small child to join the waiting list please contact the Church Office on 01202 677117.
