Welcome to St. James’ Church

We strive to be a living church, that is friendly, welcoming and in touch with the 21st Century. St. James' extends a warm welcome to everyone regardless of age or circumstances. We are a family Church that believes that today more than ever, great attention must be given to children, young people and their needs.

St. James' is a Church of England parish and a Civic Church in the Evangelical Tradition that aims to present the Christian faith and way of life in a clear and attractive way, a way for all the people of today. The Bible is central to our Church Life and teaching.

The Church is available for Wedding Services and we have a marvellous Church Hall and Community Centre which is used for a number of our activities and is also available for hire. Please click on the relevant buttons above to see more about our Church Wedding and Church Centre facilities.

We are very honoured to announce the appointment of Professor David Owen Norris MA(Oxon) FRAM FRCO as Director of Music for St. James’ Church. David conducted the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus at St. James’s in a performance of the St. Matthew Passion last Easter, he was so impressed with the possibilities here that he became our Director of Music. David has introduced a number of new musical initiatives at the church incluing a Sunday Morning Music Club for children, 'Start to Sing' sessions for would-be Choir members, separate Girls and Boys Choirs, and choirs for special occasions!

We aim for a Church that is relevant and spiritual, that seeks to welcome and include everyone in its worship and activities. Ministering in the power of The Holy Spirit so that people feel uplifted, encouraged and brought closer to God; where opportunity is given for pastoral needs to be addressed and met through fellowship and prayer. A Church that encourages every believing member to be part of a smaller group for personal renewal and effective witness in the world while recognising the value and power of prayer in our personal and church lives. We also aim to develop the life of the Church into a caring fellowship so that each member feels valued and supported.

We look forward to welcoming you as a visitor or as a new member of our congregation to our beautiful, historic and friendly Church.
